With funding from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, we have initiated a program under the guidance of teaching artist, Tessa Windt, where older adults are using art to createplacematsthat will then be distributed to home bound individuals through the Salvation Army. The goal of the project is to create a series of artworks that utilize the placemat as a space for artistic creation and presentation, and build on the placemat format’s capacity for inherent mobility to capitalize on its collaborative and connective potential.Through this program we hope to enhance purpose, engagement, and socialization of older adults. The first workshop was held on February 10th!
