Introduction to Black Tiles Using white gel pens on black tiles. Supplies: Black tiles White Gelly Roll® pen White charcoal pencil or white colored pencil Pigma micron 01 black pen Tortillion (marked for use with white charcoal) Tissue Tips: Try the Gel pen on the back of the tile or the scrap piece of black paper. Write your name, make a circle or two. Play around with pushing versus pulling the pen. How does the flow of ink change? Which works better for you? Change the angle of the pen. You will see it works better when it is held vertically rather than at an angle. Try drawing thin and thick lines by changing the pressure of the pen. Use a light hand with the white gel pen. The pens perform better if you press gently. The ink flows much easier. Remember to o Slow down your strokes – this will help produce an even line; if you move the pen too fast, it has a tendency to “skip”. Be mindful! o Occasionally dab the tip with the tissue to remove excess ink that tends to accumulate. Make sure the white pen lines are completely dry before adding shading with the white pencil. Tangles: Tortuca Munchin Florz Tipple Gneiss At home: Redraw the patterns with a black pen on white card stock. Note the impact some patterns have with white on black vs black on white.
